American tennis star Jessica Pegula continued her strong run at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2026, securing a comfortable straight-sets victory to move into the quarterfinals. The fourth seed defeated rising talent Iva Jovic 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16 on February 18, showing her experience and control throughout the match.

The contest, played on Court 1, lasted just over an hour and highlighted Pegula’s consistency as she now prepares for a key quarterfinal clash against Denmark’s Clara Tauson.

Match Summary: Pegula Controls the Pace

Pegula stayed calm under early pressure and gradually took control with strong serving and effective return play. After a tight opening set, she dominated the second set by breaking Jovic multiple times and closing the match comfortably.

Jovic, an 18-year-old emerging player, showed flashes of promise but struggled to match Pegula’s rhythm and experience in longer rallies.

Quarterfinal Preview: Pegula vs Clara Tauson

Pegula will now face 12th seed Clara Tauson in the quarterfinal on February 19 at the Center Court. This will be the first career meeting between the two players.

Tauson comes into the match with confidence after a strong recent performance in Dubai, where she reached the final last year. The matchup is expected to be competitive, with both players in good form.

    Tournament Update and Pegula’s Form

The Dubai tournament has seen several withdrawals from top players, opening opportunities for in-form contenders. Pegula has taken full advantage, playing steady tennis and avoiding long matches.

Beyond her on-court performance, Pegula also remains an important voice in the sport, currently serving as chair of the WTA’s Tour Architecture Council, which is working on future calendar improvements.

With momentum on her side and confidence growing, Pegula is emerging as one of the strongest title contenders this week.
