Jannik Sinner has officially begun his clay-court season at the Monte-Carlo Masters, arriving with strong momentum after an outstanding run during the hard-court swing.

The Italian star recently achieved a historic milestone by completing the Sunshine Double without losing a single set, winning both Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open in dominant fashion.

Now the focus shifts to clay courts as Sinner begins a new chapter of the 2026 season.

Quick Turnaround to the Clay Season

Despite the short break following his Sunshine Double triumph, Sinner quickly returned to training to prepare for the transition to clay.

The change in surface brings a completely different challenge compared to hard courts. Movement, shot timing, and endurance all require adjustments, and Sinner has emphasized the importance of keeping his preparation simple during this transition.

He started with light practice sessions before gradually increasing the intensity, focusing on adapting his movement and rhythm on clay courts.

Sinner also trained on the tournament’s center court early to get comfortable with the conditions before competitive matches begin.

Clay Remains a Key Challenge for Sinner

Although Sinner has become one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour, clay has historically been his most challenging surface.

That said, his performances last season showed significant improvement. He reached the finals of both the Italian Open and the French Open.

Both times he finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz, who proved to be his toughest rival on clay.

Those results demonstrated that Sinner is capable of competing at the highest level on the surface, even if a major clay title has not yet arrived.

    Maintaining a Positive Mindset

Heading into Monte Carlo, Sinner has adopted a balanced mindset. While he believes he can perform well on clay, he also understands that success on the surface cannot be guaranteed.

Instead of focusing on expectations, the Italian is concentrating on preparation and positioning himself to compete deep into the tournament.

His approach reflects the calm and disciplined mindset that has defined his rise over the past few seasons.

    Upcoming Match at Monte Carlo

Sinner will return to competitive action in the singles draw on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to face Ugo Humbert.

In addition to singles, he is also competing in the doubles event alongside Zizou Bergs during the tournament week.

Race for the World No.1 Ranking

Sinner currently sits near the top of the ATP rankings and a strong performance in Monte Carlo could bring him closer to reclaiming the world No.1 position.

With his confidence high after a dominant Sunshine Double and improved clay-court results from last season, the Italian enters the tournament with momentum on his side.

A deep run in Monte Carlo could not only mark the beginning of a strong clay season but also move him one step closer to returning to the top of the world rankings.
