The Richmond Floorball Showcase successfully brought together players from multiple states during a three-day event held at the RCSSC Annex in Henrico County. The event ran from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15 and featured beginner sessions, competitive matches, and community open play designed to promote the sport in the Richmond region.

More than 50 players participated in the Showcase, making it one of the largest floorball gatherings in the area and an important step in growing the sport locally.

    Event Overview

The Richmond Floorball Club organized the first Richmond Floorball Showcase as a companion event to the Atlantic Floorball Open. The event combined entry-level learning opportunities with competitive play to welcome new players while also giving experienced athletes a chance to compete.

The three-day program included beginner open play, a 4-on-4 tournament format, and final playoff matches on the last day. Organizers aimed to introduce more people to floorball while also bringing visiting clubs to Richmond.

The event attracted 51 players during the weekend, including a strong presence from the Richmond community. Out of those participants, 37 players were from the local area.

Several participants were also new to the sport or the club’s events, showing the success of the program in attracting fresh interest.

The Showcase also welcomed visiting teams from other cities. Clubs such as NYC Football and Pittsburgh Forge joined three Richmond teams, forming a five-team competition.

These visiting teams traveled to Richmond to support the event and strengthen connections between floorball communities across the East Coast.

    Event Schedule and Competition Format

The three-day event followed a structured schedule designed to balance learning and competition.

Friday’s open play session allowed newcomers to learn the basics of floorball and gave returning players time to practice skills.

Saturday featured the main competition, where five teams competed in a fast-paced 4-on-4 tournament format.

The Showcase concluded on Sunday with playoff games followed by an open gym session where players continued to play, practice, and receive coaching.

    Growing Floorball in Richmond

According to Richmond Floorball Club President Nick Baldaino, the Showcase achieved the club’s main goals. The event successfully introduced new players to floorball, brought visiting teams to the city, and helped strengthen the local sports community.

The club believes events like the Showcase are important for expanding the sport and building a stronger player base in the region.

Expanding the Sport Along the East Coast

The Richmond Floorball Club has been actively working to grow the sport in Virginia and beyond. Last year, the club secured a permanent floorball space at the Powhatan Ice Den, giving the organization a stable venue for training and events.

Club leaders say that the Showcase is part of a larger plan to expand floorball opportunities across the East Coast. By hosting events that combine beginner learning sessions with competitive tournaments, organizers hope to attract more players and develop stronger floorball programs in the region.

More events similar to the Richmond Floorball Showcase are expected in the future as the club continues its efforts to grow the sport and build a larger community of players.
