The Charlotte Hornets celebrated one of the most important moments in franchise history as Dell Curry’s No. 30 jersey was officially retired at the Spectrum Center. The special ceremony took place during Charlotte’s home game against the Orlando Magic, turning the night into a tribute to one of the organization’s most respected figures.

For Hornets fans, Dell Curry represents a key part of the team’s early identity. The sharpshooting guard spent many seasons building the franchise’s foundation and became one of the most recognizable names in Charlotte basketball.

The ceremony honored his long career with the team, both as a player and later as a broadcaster who remained closely connected to the Hornets community.

    Dell Curry’s Legacy in Charlotte

Dell Curry played ten seasons with the Hornets and established himself as one of the most reliable shooters in the NBA during the 1990s.

His scoring ability, three-point shooting, and role as a dependable bench player made him a valuable part of Charlotte’s lineup for many years.

For many years, Curry held the franchise record for games played, total points, field goals, and three-pointers made.

Although later players eventually passed some of those marks, Curry still remains among the top performers in several statistical categories in team history.

Sixth Man Impact and Shooting Excellence

Curry was widely respected for his scoring ability off the bench. His contributions helped Charlotte stay competitive during the early years of the franchise.

One of his most memorable seasons came in 1993–94 when he won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.

That season helped Charlotte finish with a .500 record and established Curry as one of the league’s best reserve scorers.

His consistency also stood out during the decade. He was the only player in the 1990s to shoot better than 40 percent from three-point range for seven straight seasons.

    Career Beyond Charlotte

After his time with the Hornets, Curry continued his career with other teams before retiring from the NBA.

He finished his career as the NBA’s all-time leader in scoring off the bench with 11,147 points, highlighting how effective he was as a sixth man throughout his career.

Stephen Curry Reflects on His Father’s Honor

The ceremony was also meaningful for Dell Curry’s family. His son, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, spoke about how much the moment meant to him.

“It means the world because the Hornets’ No. 30, pinstripes, Charlotte and Dell Curry are pretty synonymous in terms of what he did as the original Hornet,” Stephen Curry said.

“Ten years playing there, what he’s done as a broadcaster, in the community and all that.”

Stephen’s younger brother Seth Curry also shares a connection to the franchise. He spent two seasons with the Hornets from 2023 to 2025 and was the last player to wear the No. 30 jersey before it was officially retired.

Hornets vs Magic Game Night Atmosphere

The jersey retirement ceremony added extra energy to the Hornets’ matchup against the Orlando Magic.

The Hornets entered the game in strong form, having won three of their previous four contests. Their recent momentum included a dominant 30-point victory against the Miami Heat.

Charlotte has also seen strong fan support recently. The team tied an attendance record earlier in the week with its 16th sold-out crowd.

    Hornets Playoff Push Continues

With the regular season approaching its final stretch, Charlotte is in a promising position in the standings.

The Hornets appear well-positioned to secure a spot in the Play-In Tournament if they maintain their current form.

Following the Magic game, Charlotte will continue a long homestand with several more games before their next road trip.

A Historic Night for the Franchise

Dell Curry’s jersey retirement represents more than just a ceremony. It marks recognition of a player who helped shape the Hornets’ identity during their early years.

His shooting ability, leadership, and long connection with the franchise have made him one of the most respected figures in Charlotte basketball history.

As his No. 30 jersey rises to the rafters at Spectrum Center, it stands as a permanent reminder of the legacy he built with the Hornets.
