WWE legend AJ Styles has officially stepped away from in-ring competition, but his journey with the company is far from over. The former world champion confirmed that he will continue working with WWE in a new role focused on developing young talent and helping the next generation of superstars succeed.

Styles shared the update during a recent podcast appearance, making it clear that while his wrestling career has ended, his commitment to WWE remains strong.

Emotional Farewell After Royal Rumble Loss

The decision came after Styles’ final major appearance at Royal Rumble 2026, where he faced Gunther. Following that match, he announced his retirement, bringing an end to one of the most respected careers in modern wrestling.

On the February 23 episode of RAW, WWE honored Styles with an emotional tribute. He delivered a heartfelt speech and left his gloves and jacket in the ring, symbolizing his farewell to active competition.

The primary reasons behind the decision were ongoing physical issues, especially a serious neck problem and overall wear and tear from years of high-level performance.

New WWE Role Focused on Mentorship

Despite retiring from the ring, Styles confirmed he will remain part of WWE’s system. His new focus will be on preparing young wrestlers for the demands of performing at the top level.

He explained that his goal is to help new talent build confidence, improve their in-ring skills, and feel comfortable as part of the locker room environment. WWE sees his experience and leadership as a major asset for rising stars.

Young performers such as emerging prospects and future main-event talents are expected to benefit from his guidance.

Styles also put an end to speculation about a possible move to another promotion. He clearly stated that he is retired from active wrestling and plans to remain with WWE, focusing only on his new backstage and mentoring responsibilities.

Fellow WWE superstars and fans have already shared emotional tributes, praising his professionalism, work ethic, and influence on the business. While the “Phenomenal One” may no longer compete, his presence inside WWE will continue to shape the future of the company.
