Novak Djokovic once again proved why he is regarded as one of the greatest players in tennis history. The 38-year-old Serbian defeated defending champion Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-set semifinal at the Australian Open 2026 to book a place in his record-extending 11th final in Melbourne.

The match, played under lights at Rod Laver Arena, lasted 4 hours and 10 minutes and tested the physical and mental limits of both players. Djokovic won the contest 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, showing remarkable resilience against one of the toughest opponents on hard courts.

With this victory, Djokovic moves one step closer to a historic 25th Grand Slam title and sets up a blockbuster final against top seed Carlos Alcaraz.

Match Summary: How Djokovic Turned the Tide

Sinner started strongly, using his powerful serve and aggressive baseline play to take the first set. Djokovic responded in the second, improving his return game and extending rallies to break Sinner’s rhythm.

The third set again went Sinner’s way, but from that point onward, Djokovic raised his level. He stayed calm under pressure, saved multiple break points, and waited patiently for chances in the fourth and fifth sets.

The decisive moment came in the final set when Djokovic broke Sinner at 4-4 and then held serve to close out the match, despite facing resistance in the last game.
