Florida Panthers captain Brad Marchand may miss the remainder of the season as the veteran winger prepares to meet doctors this week to determine whether surgery will be required for a lingering lower-body injury.

Head coach Paul Maurice confirmed that Marchand has been dealing with the issue for several months. While the team managed the condition earlier through rest and careful workload control, the injury has recently worsened, leaving surgery as a possible outcome.

Even if surgery is avoided, Maurice indicated that Marchand is expected to be sidelined for a significant period.

Marchand to Meet Specialists This Week

The Panthers are waiting for medical evaluations before making a final decision on Marchand’s treatment plan. According to Maurice, the injury has been gradually building throughout the season.

The coaching staff had been able to manage the problem earlier by limiting his workload and occasionally holding him out of games. However, the demanding schedule surrounding the Olympic break placed additional stress on the injury.

Maurice explained that the situation is no longer short-term and that Marchand will likely be out for weeks regardless of the final decision.

The final medical evaluation is expected to determine whether surgery is the best option moving forward.

Injury Has Affected Him for Months

Marchand has been managing the injury for a large portion of the season. Before the Winter Olympics, he missed 10 of Florida’s final 15 games due to the issue.

During the Olympic tournament in Milan, he also sat out two of Canada’s six games, though he still helped the team earn a silver medal.

The Panthers had hoped the injury could continue to be managed through rest and limited playing time. However, the situation worsened during a recent stretch of games and travel.

Maurice explained that the team reached a point where the injury was no longer recovering between games.

    Marchand Still Leading Panthers Offense

Despite the injury, Marchand has been one of Florida’s best players this season. The veteran winger continues to lead the team offensively when on the ice.

The 37-year-old forward is currently in the first year of a six-year contract that carries an annual cap hit of $5.25 million.

His leadership and scoring ability have made him a key part of the Panthers’ lineup throughout the season.

    Panthers Adjusting Lineup Amid Injuries

Florida is already dealing with several injury concerns, which could influence how the team manages the rest of the season.

The Panthers recently added Vinnie Hinostroza and Cole Reinhardt to help strengthen their forward group as the team navigates the final stretch of games.

Hinostroza is expected to enter the lineup when Florida hosts the Detroit Red Wings, providing additional depth while the team evaluates Marchand’s situation.

    Updates on Other Panthers Injuries

Florida also shared updates on two players currently on long-term injured reserve.

Jones has been out since suffering the collarbone injury during the Winter Classic on January 2, while Gadjovich has been recovering from surgery performed earlier in the season.

Florida’s playoff hopes are fading, and the team may choose to prioritize player health over pushing injured veterans back into action.

Team management has indicated that they will continue evaluating players’ physical condition and may adjust ice time as needed during the final stretch of the season.

With Marchand’s injury decision expected soon, the Panthers could be preparing to finish the year without one of their most important players.
