    The University of Virginia has announced a long-term commitment to its football program by extending the contract of head coach Tony Elliott through the 2030 season.

    The decision follows one of the most successful seasons in program history, as the Cavaliers delivered a record-breaking campaign in 2025.

    Contract Extension Confirmed

    The extension was confirmed in an official announcement released by the university’s athletics department.

    Virginia athletic director Carla Williams praised Elliott’s leadership and highlighted the progress made under his guidance. She emphasized that the football program is moving in a positive direction both on the field and in player development.

    The new deal ensures that Elliott will remain the head coach of the Cavaliers through the 2030 college football season.

    Record-Breaking 2025 Season

    Virginia enjoyed its most successful season in years during the 2025 campaign.

    The Cavaliers finished with a school-record 11 wins and ended the season with a major bowl victory.

    In the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, Virginia defeated the Missouri Tigers football 13–7 to close the season on a high note.

    The bowl victory marked the program’s first postseason win since 2018.

    Winning seven of eight conference games demonstrated Virginia’s consistency throughout the season and confirmed the program’s rise under Elliott’s leadership.

    National Rankings and Recognition

    Virginia’s success also translated into national recognition.

    The Cavaliers finished the season ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press final poll.

    That ranking represented the program’s highest final AP position since 1995.

    Virginia also appeared in every College Football Playoff rankings during the season for the first time in school history and finished the cycle ranked No. 19.
