Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj is currently enjoying an impressive phase across formats. In the ongoing three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Siraj has bowled with control and intensity. In the first ODI at Vadodara, he picked up two important wickets and played a key role in India’s four-wicket win, giving the team a 1–0 lead. In the second ODI at Rajkot, although New Zealand managed to level the series, Siraj once again created pressure in the early overs and kept the run flow in check, showing consistency and discipline with the ball. The series now heads into a decisive third match at Indore, where Siraj’s experience will once again be crucial.

Amid this international assignment, a major domestic update has emerged. Mohammed Siraj has been appointed captain of the Hyderabad team for the remainder of the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season. The decision was taken after regular captain Tilak Varma was ruled out due to injury. The Hyderabad Cricket Association believes Siraj’s international exposure and leadership maturity will help the team regroup in the elite group stage.

Siraj has a strong connection with Hyderabad cricket. He made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2015–16 season and has been a match-winner whenever available for domestic duty. His standout season came in 2016–17, when he claimed 41 wickets and guided Hyderabad to the quarter-finals. Overall, in limited Ranji appearances due to international commitments, Siraj has maintained an excellent bowling average and produced multiple five-wicket hauls.

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Siraj has already contributed with seven wickets in two matches, underlining his readiness to lead from the front. His appointment is being seen not just as a temporary leadership move, but as an opportunity to groom him for larger leadership responsibilities in Indian cricket.

With international form on his side and now the responsibility of leading Hyderabad, Mohammed Siraj enters an important phase of his career. Hyderabad will be hoping that his aggression, discipline, and experience translate into strong results in the remaining Ranji Trophy fixtures.
