Former WWE champion John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL) has revealed that he still owns the original WWE Undisputed Championship belt. The wrestling veteran spoke about the title during an appearance on the Something to Wrestle podcast, sharing how the belt ended up staying with him after his championship run.

JBL explained that the belt he has is likely the original version that was used during the early years of the Undisputed Championship era.

JBL Says the Belt Stayed With Him After Losing the Title

JBL held the WWE Championship once during his career. His title reign lasted 280 days before he eventually lost the championship to John Cena.

After Cena won the title, the design was changed into the famous “spinner belt” version that became a symbol of Cena’s era in WWE.

JBL explained that when the design changed, the original belt remained with him.

He said that after losing the title to Cena, the championship design was replaced and he continued to keep the older version for storyline purposes. Over time, the belt simply stayed with him. JBL added that he never tried to take it intentionally, but it eventually became part of his personal collection.

He also mentioned that he believes the same belt was previously held by Eddie Guerrero during his championship run.

    WWE Undisputed Championship Belt History

The Undisputed Championship belt was introduced in 2002 during a major period in WWE history. It was unveiled after Triple H defeated Chris Jericho, a match that officially merged two major world championships into one title.

This created a single undisputed world champion in WWE.

Over the years, the belt became associated with several iconic wrestlers who helped define that era.

During the podcast, JBL and host Conrad Thompson spoke with championship belt expert Tony Giese about the possible value of such a historic item.

According to Giese, a championship belt with this level of history could easily reach a six-figure value. That means it could be worth at least $100,000 or possibly more depending on the buyer.

Several factors can increase the value of wrestling memorabilia.

Why the Belt Matters to Wrestling Fans

Championship belts in wrestling are more than just props used during matches. They often represent important moments in the sport’s history and remind fans of major storylines and legendary champions.

The original Undisputed Championship design is closely tied to the early 2000s era of WWE, a period that featured many of the biggest names in the industry.

JBL keeping the belt means a real piece of that era still exists in private hands. For fans and collectors, items like this help preserve the history of professional wrestling.
