The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to send two senior officials to Dhaka to solve the ongoing issue with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup.
This visit is seen as a last effort to rebuild trust and reassure Bangladesh about security and fairness before the tournament begins in India.
Why Is the ICC Visiting Dhaka?
The ICC visit has two main goals:
- To rebuild confidence between the ICC and Bangladesh
- To resolve concerns that are blocking Bangladesh’s full participation in the tournament
Earlier online talks nearly collapsed after strong objections from BCB president Aminul Islam. Despite this, the ICC chose dialogue over conflict and arranged an in-person meeting.
Officials from the Muhammad Yunus-led government are also expected to be involved in discussions.
Main Issues Behind the Dispute
1. Security Concerns in India
- Bangladesh fears possible security risks for its players in India.
- ICC’s independent security report rates India’s threat level as moderate to low.
- Interestingly, the same report suggests that Bangladesh itself has a higher risk level (moderate to high).
The ICC believes such risk levels are normal for global events and can be managed with proper security.
2. Mustafizur Rahman Controversy
- BCB raised concerns about player safety, especially for Mustafizur Rahman.
- They referred to hypothetical scenarios like communal unrest.
- Political comments by leaders from BJP and Shiv Sena were also cited.
The ICC responded by stating that imaginary or hypothetical threats cannot justify withdrawal from an international tournament.

ICC’s Standpoint
- Bangladesh is important to world cricket.
- However, ICC must also think about the other 19 participating teams.
- Changing venues at the last moment would create a bad precedent for future tournaments.
- The schedule was announced on November 25, and BCB did not object for nearly three weeks.
Because of this delay, ICC and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) believe it is now too late to change venues.
Unshared Security Report Issue
- BCB claims its own security report shows risks to players.
- However, this report has not been shared with either ICC or BCCI.
- ICC officials argue that assumptions alone cannot cancel participation.
- They gave an example: a protest in Paris does not make France unsafe for sports.

The ICC’s visit to Dhaka is more than a formal meeting—it is a confidence-building mission. While Bangladesh’s concerns are being heard, the ICC is firm that global tournaments cannot be reshaped based on hypothetical fears.
The coming meeting may decide whether this issue ends with cooperation—or becomes a historic standoff in international cricket.
