World No. 2 Iga Swiatek moved into the fourth round of the Australian Open 2026 after defeating Anna Kalinskaya in a dramatic three-set match on Saturday.

Swiatek won the contest 6–1, 1–6, 6–1 in 1 hour and 44 minutes, sealing her place in the Round of 16 after a true momentum-shifting encounter on the Melbourne hard courts.

Match Recap: Momentum Swings on Both Sides

The second seed came out firing in the opening set, breaking serve early and controlling rallies to take it comfortably. Kalinskaya responded strongly in the second set, raising her aggression and forcing errors to level the match.

In the deciding third set, Swiatek reset quickly, tightening her baseline game and dictating points with depth and consistency. She raced through the final set to close out the win with authority.

Swiatek’s edge came from her stronger first-serve performance and ability to control longer rallies when it mattered most.

    Swiatek’s Grand Slam Consistency Continues

With this victory, Swiatek has now reached the second week of a Grand Slam for the 21st time in her career. At the Australian Open, this marks her sixth Round of 16 appearance in eight main-draw entries, underlining her reliability on hard courts.

Her performance in Melbourne so far signals strong form as she looks to add another major title to her resume.

Next Match: Swiatek vs Madison Inglis

In the fourth round, Swiatek will face Australia’s last remaining singles player, Madison Inglis, a qualifier ranked outside the world’s top 150.

Inglis advanced via a walkover after Naomi Osaka withdrew before their third-round match due to an abdominal injury, confirmed by Tennis Australia. It is the best Grand Slam run of Inglis’ career.

While Swiatek enters as the clear favorite, the Rod Laver Arena crowd is expected to strongly support Inglis. Swiatek’s composure and experience will be key as the tournament moves into its decisive stages.

As the Australian Open 2026 heads into Week Two, Swiatek remains one of the strongest contenders for the title, combining mental toughness with elite shot-making.
