The Milwaukee Bucks may finally receive a much-needed lift as superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to return to action ahead of their crucial matchup against the Boston Celtics at Fiserv Forum on March 2.
After missing more than five weeks with a right calf strain, the team upgraded his status to questionable, a strong sign that he is close to stepping back onto the court. The 31-year-old forward has been participating in live practice sessions with coaches and teammates over the past two weeks, indicating steady progress in his recovery.
Long Injury Spell Comes at a Tough Time for Milwaukee
Antetokounmpo has been out since January 23, missing the last 15 games. His absence has come during a challenging stretch for Milwaukee, which has struggled to maintain consistency without its franchise player.
The injury marked the second calf strain of the season, continuing a year filled with physical setbacks. Earlier in the campaign, Giannis also dealt with a left adductor issue and played several games under a minutes restriction.
In fact, he has not been fully healthy since mid-November, forcing the team to manage his workload carefully whenever he returned.

Dominant Form When Fully Fit
Despite the injury interruptions, Antetokounmpo’s performance when healthy has remained elite.
In his 12 fully healthy games earlier this season, he averaged:
- 32.6 points
- 11.3 rebounds
- 7.1 assists
- 1.3 blocks
- 63% shooting from the field
Even while playing limited minutes in other appearances, he still produced 24.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, highlighting his importance to the team.
Bucks Fighting to Stay in Playoff Race
Milwaukee enters the matchup with a 26–33 record, sitting 11th in the Eastern Conference and outside the Play-In spots. The team has managed mixed results without its star, and the return of Antetokounmpo could be crucial in their push for a late-season surge.
The Bucks went 15–15 in games where Giannis played any minutes, but their record dropped significantly when he was unavailable. With the Eastern Conference race tightening, his presence could be the difference between staying in contention or falling behind.

What His Return Means Going Forward
Antetokounmpo’s comeback comes at a critical moment for Milwaukee. If he returns without restrictions and regains rhythm quickly, the Bucks could still make a strong push toward the Play-In Tournament.
Beyond this season, the team’s long-term outlook may also depend on how the remainder of the campaign unfolds. For now, the focus is clear get their MVP back on the floor and give Milwaukee one last chance to turn the season around.
With the Celtics game approaching, all eyes will be on Giannis as he prepares to test his calf and potentially lead the Bucks back into the playoff fight.
