The Women’s Premier League 2026 has already delivered high drama, and after just six matches, the Purple Cap standings have taken an exciting turn. For the first time this season, three bowlers are jointly leading the wicket charts, making the race wide open at an early stage of the tournament.

Delhi Capitals’ young pacer Nandani Sharma, Royal Challengers Bengaluru spinner Shreyanka Patil, and Gujarat Giants all-rounder Sophie Devine all have five wickets each. Their performances have kept fans and experts closely watching the Purple Cap battle.

The shift at the top came after RCB vs MI on January 16. Shreyanka Patil produced a match-winning spell of 4 wickets for 28 runs, pushing her level with Nandani Sharma on the wicket tally. Her controlled spin in the middle overs played a key role in swinging the Purple Cap standings.

Earlier, Sophie Devine had quietly climbed the table with consistent spells across three matches, completing her tally of five wickets against UP Warriorz.

    Nandani Sharma (Delhi Capitals)

The 24-year-old fast bowler made headlines by taking 5 wickets for 33 runs, including a hat-trick. It was one of the best bowling spells in early WPL 2026 and instantly placed her at the top. In just two matches, she has shown calm under pressure and strong death-over control.

    Shreyanka Patil (RCB)

One of India’s brightest young spinners, Shreyanka has continued her strong WPL journey. Her 4/28 against MI was a reminder of how effective spin can be on Indian surfaces. She now has 25 WPL wickets overall, proving her consistency beyond just this season.

    Sophie Devine (Gujarat Giants)

The experienced New Zealand star has balanced leadership and bowling well. While known mainly for her batting, Devine’s smart use of pace variations has brought her five wickets in three matches, keeping Gujarat Giants competitive.

As the league stage progresses, workload management and consistency will decide who holds the Purple Cap longer. With players like Deepti Sharma and Grace Harris close behind, the competition is far from settled.
