Cincinnati wide receiver Jeff Caldwell produced one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine, delivering elite athletic numbers that instantly changed the conversation around his draft outlook. The towering pass-catcher impressed scouts with rare speed and explosiveness for his size, turning a previously quiet profile into one of the most talked-about performances of the event.

Caldwell clocked a blazing 4.31-second 40-yard dash while also posting a 42-inch vertical jump and an 11-foot-2 broad jump. For wide receivers standing 6-foot-5 or taller, those numbers rank as the best recorded since 2003, placing him in historic territory for big-bodied wideouts.

    Elite Size Meets Rare Speed

Measured at just over 6-foot-5 and 216 pounds, Caldwell already had the physical frame teams look for in an outside receiver. His combine testing proved that he is more than just a tall target. The speed he showed put him among the fastest receivers overall at the event, while his jumping numbers confirmed his explosiveness and downfield playmaking potential.

Scouts and analysts quickly took notice as the performance spread across the league, with many viewing it as one of the most eye-opening workouts of the year. The combination of height, long speed, and athletic ability makes Caldwell an intriguing option for teams searching for a vertical threat on the outside.

From Underrated Prospect to Draft Riser

Before the combine, Caldwell was widely viewed as a fringe prospect with limited attention in early projections. His testing performance has significantly changed that outlook and could move him firmly into the Day 3 conversation as a potential value pick.

The Louisville native began his college career at Lindenwood, where he produced a 1,000-yard season and earned national recognition at the FCS level. He later transferred to Cincinnati and finished the 2025 season with 32 receptions for 478 yards and six touchdowns, showing big-play ability despite a limited role in the offense.

    Strengths and Areas for Growth

Caldwell’s game is built around his size advantage and ability to win contested catches. His straight-line speed allows him to stretch the field, while his physical style also shows up in blocking and red-zone situations. Evaluators believe his route-running still needs refinement, but the athletic tools give him significant upside at the next level.

For teams looking for a developmental outside receiver with rare physical traits, Caldwell now stands out as one of the most intriguing sleeper prospects in the 2026 class.

The 2026 NFL Combine often serves as a turning point for lesser-known prospects, and Caldwell’s performance may prove to be one of the biggest stock boosters of the year. What began as a quiet evaluation week ended with his name firmly on the radar of multiple teams.

With his size-speed combination and newfound attention, Caldwell has positioned himself as a potential mid-round steal and a player who could quickly grow into a big-play option in the NFL.
