Jordan Stolz Creates History: Two Gold Medals, Two Olympic Records at Winter Olympics 2026

At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Jordan Stolz has emerged as one of the biggest stars of the Games. The young American speedskater delivered a sensational performance on February 14, 2026, winning the men’s 500m gold in an Olympic-record time and securing his second gold medal of the tournament.

With two races completed, Stolz now has two gold medals and two Olympic records, placing him firmly on track for a historic campaign.

Olympic Glory in the 500m: Record-Breaking Sprint

The men’s 500m is one of the toughest events in speedskating — a full-speed race with no room for error. Stolz handled the pressure brilliantly and finished in 33.77 seconds, setting a new Olympic record.

    BronzeLaurent DubreuilCanada34.26

All three medalists finished below the previous Olympic record, highlighting the high level of competition.

    Stolz’s performance was built on:

    • A strong opening start
    • Smooth corner technique
    • The fastest final lap split of the day

He edged his main rival Jenning de Boo by 0.11 seconds, the largest winning margin in an Olympic 500m race since 1988.g

Two Races, Two Golds: A Historic Double

Earlier in the week, Stolz had already won gold in the 1000m, also setting an Olympic record. His victories in both sprint events make him only the second man in history to complete the 500m–1000m double at a single Winter Olympics.

The only other athlete to achieve this feat was American legend Eric Heiden in 1980.

    Stolz’s campaign so far:

    • 1000m – Gold (Olympic Record)
    • 500m – Gold (Olympic Record)

The 21-year-old has now established himself as the central figure in long-track speedskating at these Games.

A Big Moment for Team USA

Stolz’s success came at an important time for the United States, which had faced injuries and disappointing results in other winter sports events. His calm and composed performance brought a major boost to the American contingent.

    He also became:

    • The first American to win Olympic gold in the men’s 500m since 2002
    • The first American to win the event in over two decades
    • A strong contender to become one of the most successful athletes of the Games

    What Makes Stolz Special?

Unlike many sprinters who rely on explosive starts alone, Stolz’s strength lies in speed preservation and technical efficiency. His balanced race execution — strong start, smooth turns, and powerful finishing speed — separates him from the field.

Raised in Wisconsin, Stolz developed his skills through years of disciplined training and a technical approach focused on equipment setup, aerodynamics, and race strategy. His rapid rise is reflected in his multiple world titles across sprint distances.

    Chasing Olympic History

Stolz is not done yet. He is scheduled to compete in:

    • 1500m (next event)
    • Mass Start (February 21)

If he continues his winning streak, he could:

    • Win three or even four gold medals at a single Winter Olympics
    • Become the first American to achieve such dominance since Eric Heiden’s legendary five-gold performance in 1980
    • Join the list of the greatest speedskaters in Olympic history

After his latest victory, Stolz showed his typical calm attitude. Despite the growing attention and comparisons with legends, he remains focused on one race at a time.

His confidence is clear — with one gold already secured earlier, he admitted the pressure had eased, allowing him to skate more freely and aggressively.
