Just weeks before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, New Zealand cricket team have suffered a major setback. Star fast bowler Adam Milne has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury, forcing the selectors to make a late change to their squad.
The New Zealand Cricket Board confirmed that Kyle Jamieson, the 31-year-old pace bowler, has been added to the World Cup squad as Milne’s replacement.
What Happened to Adam Milne?
Milne picked up the injury while playing in the SA20 league, representing Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The fast bowler felt discomfort during a bowling spell, and medical scans later confirmed a left hamstring injury, ruling him out of the World Cup.
Although Milne was not part of the ongoing T20I series in India, he was seen as a key match-winner for New Zealand in global tournaments, especially with his pace and experience in pressure games.
New Zealand Cricket Official Response
New Zealand Cricket expressed disappointment over Milne’s injury, stating that he had worked extremely hard to be fully ready for the World Cup. Team management acknowledged the unfortunate timing, especially given Milne’s strong form in recent franchise matches.
Head coach Rob Walter said the team feels for Milne but is confident in the replacement option.
Kyle Jamieson Steps In at the Right Time
Kyle Jamieson, who was originally selected as a travelling reserve, has now been promoted to the main squad. The tall fast bowler is already in India with the New Zealand team for the T20I series and is expected to slot in smoothly.
Jamieson has impressed with his discipline and bounce in the past and brings valuable experience in subcontinent conditions. His presence also adds depth to New Zealand pace-bowling unit ahead of a demanding tournament.

Big Responsibility on Jamieson
Adam Milne’s absence is a clear loss for New Zealand, particularly in a fast-paced T20 format. However, the team believes Jamieson has the skill and temperament to handle big-match pressure. With several key fixtures coming up, the pace attack will now revolve around consistency rather than raw speed.
As New Zealand continue their India tour, attention is also on the ongoing bilateral series, including the much-awaited IND vs NZ 2nd T20I, which remains crucial for team combinations and momentum heading into the World Cup.
