Thunder vs Spurs Game 2 Prediction: Last Games, Injury Report, Player Stats, H2H & Best Picks - NBA 21 May, 2026

The Western Conference Finals have already delivered one unforgettable classic, and now the pressure shifts completely onto the Oklahoma City Thunder heading into Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs. After surviving two overtime periods in Game 1, the Spurs walked away with a massive road victory and grabbed early control of the series behind another historic performance from Victor Wembanyama. The young superstar completely dominated both ends of the floor with 41 points and 24 rebounds, showing once again why many already believe he is becoming the face of the NBA. Oklahoma City now returns to the floor facing one of the most important games of its season.

The Thunder were dominant throughout the playoffs before this loss, but Game 1 exposed several problems, especially offensively where Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled with efficiency and the Thunder had difficulty finishing consistently around the rim against San Antonio’s length. Despite that, OKC still forced double overtime and nearly stole the opener. With the series still in Oklahoma City, the Thunder are expected to respond aggressively, while the Spurs enter with growing confidence, improved momentum, and absolutely no fear against the defending champions.

Game 2 adjustments from OKC’s defense could slow San Antonio’s supporting cast.

    Match Preview and Analysis

The biggest storyline entering Game 2 remains Victor Wembanyama. Oklahoma City simply had no consistent answer for him in the opener. Whether attacking in transition, scoring from deep, or dominating the glass, Wembanyama controlled the entire game for long stretches.

However, Game 2 usually brings major tactical adjustments in playoff basketball, especially from elite defensive teams like Oklahoma City. Expect the Thunder to become significantly more physical with Wembanyama early in possessions while also forcing the Spurs’ secondary scorers to beat them consistently.

Lu Dort’s defense against Wembanyama late in Game 1 showed some promise, especially when Oklahoma City forced the Spurs star further away from the basket. The Thunder may continue using aggressive traps and stronger help defense to limit his touches inside.

At the same time, Oklahoma City badly needs better offensive efficiency from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren. SGA still finished with 24 points and 12 assists despite struggling from the field, and historically he has responded very well after poor playoff shooting performances.

Chet Holmgren is another critical factor. His ability to stretch the floor with perimeter shooting could force Wembanyama away from the rim, opening more driving lanes for Oklahoma City’s guards. The Thunder also may lean more into smaller lineups after Isaiah Hartenstein struggled with mobility during portions of Game 1.

For San Antonio, the return of De’Aaron Fox could completely change the offensive flow. Even if he is not fully healthy, his downhill attacking ability would take pressure off Castle and Harper while giving the Spurs another reliable ball-handler against Oklahoma City’s aggressive perimeter defense.

This matchup now feels much more competitive than many expected entering the series. San Antonio’s youth, confidence, and defensive versatility are giving Oklahoma City serious problems.

    Predicted Score

    TeamScore
    Oklahoma City Thunder111
    San Antonio Spurs103

    Final Verdict

Game 1 proved that the Spurs are absolutely capable of winning this series, especially with Victor Wembanyama playing at a historic level. However, Oklahoma City still remains one of the deepest and most disciplined teams in the NBA. The Thunder have consistently responded well after playoff losses over the last two seasons, and Game 2 feels like a must-win situation for the defending champions. Expect Oklahoma City to play with far greater urgency defensively while forcing more turnovers and making life more difficult for San Antonio’s young supporting cast. The Spurs should remain competitive because of Wembanyama’s dominance, but the Thunder finally look ready to respond and even the series before heading to Texas.
