Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Sal Frelick was forced to exit the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals after appearing to suffer an injury while running to first base. The incident occurred at Kauffman Stadium and quickly raised concerns for Milwaukee, especially as the team is already dealing with multiple injuries in its roster.

Frelick’s early exit came during a moment when the Brewers were trying to stay competitive in the game after splitting the doubleheader opener earlier in the day.

How the Injury Happened During the Game

Frelick’s injury occurred in the fourth inning during his second at-bat. The Brewers outfielder lined a single to center field but immediately appeared uncomfortable while running down the first-base line.

Observers noticed that he was grimacing as he moved toward first base. Although he successfully reached the bag, he ran awkwardly and did not attempt to advance further.

Soon after reaching first base, team trainers and manager Pat Murphy came out to check on him. After a short discussion, the decision was made to remove him from the game.

Official Injury Diagnosis: Left Side Tightness

Shortly after Frelick left the game, the Milwaukee Brewers confirmed the reason for his exit. The team announced that the outfielder had been removed due to left side tightness.

This type of discomfort often involves muscles around the rib cage and abdominal area. While the severity is not yet confirmed, such injuries are commonly monitored closely because they can develop into more serious strains if aggravated.

Frelick’s condition will likely be evaluated further in the coming days to determine if additional rest or treatment is required.

Brewers Already Dealing With Multiple Injuries

Frelick’s injury could be a significant concern for Milwaukee because the team is already managing several roster issues.

The Brewers have multiple players unavailable due to injuries, which has already affected their lineup depth during the early part of the season. Losing another regular starter would put additional pressure on the team’s bench and minor league depth.

Because of these injuries, Milwaukee has already had to adjust its roster and call up players from the minor leagues earlier than expected.

    Frelick’s Early Season Performance

Before leaving the game, Frelick had been contributing offensively during the doubleheader. In the first game of the day, he reached base successfully with a single and a walk during the Brewers’ victory.

In the second game, he recorded another hit before the injury forced him to leave.

Although the season is still young, Frelick remains an important part of Milwaukee’s outfield rotation and lineup balance.

    Brewers Game Context vs Royals

The Brewers entered the second game of the doubleheader hoping to sweep the day after winning the first matchup earlier. However, the Royals managed to take control later in the game.

A key moment came in the sixth inning when Kansas City expanded the scoreline after a sequence of hits and defensive miscues.

Despite Milwaukee’s attempts to respond earlier in the game, the Royals built a comfortable lead that ultimately decided the contest.

The Brewers’ medical staff will continue monitoring Frelick’s condition in the coming days. Side tightness can sometimes resolve quickly with rest, but it can also develop into an oblique strain if the muscle damage is more significant.

If further evaluation confirms a strain, the recovery timeline could extend longer.

For now, the team will wait to see how Frelick responds to treatment and whether he experiences improvement before making any roster decisions.
