Veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has opened up about what will shape the next stage of his NFL career. The 33-year-old receiver recently shared that his priorities have changed as he approaches what could be the final contract phase of his career.

Speaking with Kay Adams at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, Hopkins explained that his decision will no longer be based on targets or statistics. Instead, he is focusing on joining a team that has the right structure to compete for a championship.

Hopkins explained clearly what matters most in choosing his next destination.

DeAndre Hopkins said, “I would say quarterback that’s established. And the second, I would say, you know, a solid defence. I feel like defence wins championships.”

At this stage of his career, the veteran receiver is looking for stability, strong leadership on offense, and a team capable of competing deep into the postseason.

    Kay Adams Sparks Bengals Speculation

During the conversation, Kay Adams raised the idea of Hopkins potentially joining the Cincinnati Bengals and catching passes from star quarterback Joe Burrow.

Hopkins responded positively when discussing the Bengals quarterback.

DeAndre Hopkins said, “Joe Burrow is one of the best in the game. I’ve admired Joe since he was at LSU.”

He also recalled Burrow’s championship run with LSU, which came against Clemson, Hopkins’ college program.

The comment immediately sparked speculation among fans about the possibility of Hopkins joining Cincinnati in the future.

If Hopkins were to join the Bengals, he could potentially play a complementary role rather than being the primary receiving target.

The team already features star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on the outside. Hopkins indicated that he would be open to adjusting his role if it meant playing for a contender.

DeAndre Hopkins said he would be “very comfortable being a slot guy.”

That flexibility could make him a valuable option in a veteran support role within an already strong offense.

Hopkins has played for several teams during his NFL career and has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable receivers during his prime years.

His experience across different offensive systems has also given him a strong understanding of defensive coverages and route adjustments.

    Continued Connection to Houston

While speculation around other teams continues, Hopkins also acknowledged his emotional connection to Houston, where his NFL career began.

Responding to a fan online, he described the city as “always home.”

Hopkins also revealed that he still lives in Texas, leaving open the possibility of a reunion with the Texans in the future.

Hopkins’ numbers with Baltimore last season were lower than his peak production years. However, the Ravens’ offense relied heavily on the running game, which limited the number of passing targets.

Despite the reduced role, Hopkins remained available for all 17 games, showing that his durability remains intact.

Veteran Receiver Looking for the Right Opportunity

Hopkins’ comments make it clear that his next move will be about timing and opportunity rather than statistics.

Instead of searching for a high-volume role, he is focusing on joining a team with the right combination of quarterback stability, defensive strength, and playoff potential.

For teams seeking an experienced receiver who can adapt to different roles, Hopkins could still provide valuable leadership and situational impact as he enters the next phase of his NFL career.
