New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek delivered a historic performance in the NBA G League, showcasing his scoring and playmaking ability while representing the Westchester Knicks.

Before the Knicks hosted the Washington Wizards at Madison Square Garden, Kolek produced a standout display in Westchester’s 141-131 win over the Greensboro Swarm. The young guard scored a career-high 42 points and added 11 assists, becoming the first player in franchise history to record a 40-point and 10-assist game for Westchester.

His dominant night highlighted his development and reinforced his potential as a future contributor for New York.

Kolek also delivered an efficient shooting performance. He shot 15-for-22 from the field and knocked down 9-of-14 three-point attempts during the game.

His scoring and playmaking led Westchester to a comfortable victory while setting a new franchise milestone.

    Strong Start Set the Tone

From the opening minutes, Kolek took control of the game.

He scored 14 of Westchester’s first 19 points and quickly established himself as the offensive leader on the court. By halftime, the guard had already reached 20 points.

The momentum continued in the third quarter when he opened the half with back-to-back three-pointers. That burst helped Westchester extend its lead to 86-70 and maintain control for the remainder of the contest.

His performance demonstrated both scoring confidence and the ability to run the offense effectively.

Earlier in the NBA season, Kolek had carved out a modest role in the Knicks’ rotation.

He averaged 5.0 points, 3.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game while helping stabilize the second unit.

The young guard also contributed during the Knicks’ NBA Cup championship run and appeared in their Christmas Day victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

    Backcourt Changes Affected Rotation

The Knicks’ backcourt rotation changed following an injury to Miles McBride.

McBride underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury earlier in the month and is expected to miss significant time. In response, the Knicks acquired Jose Alvarado from the New Orleans Pelicans.

The deal included Dalen Terry, two second-round draft picks and cash considerations.

Alvarado’s arrival brought another experienced guard into the rotation.

Since joining New York, Alvarado has provided defensive intensity and ball-handling stability across 19 games.

However, the move also reduced Kolek’s opportunities to play regular minutes with the main roster.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown acknowledged the situation and praised Kolek’s progress.

Mike Brown said, “Jose’s played well for us. He’s given us a different look.”

Brown also expressed confidence in the young guard’s future, stating, “Tyler’s been awesome for Year 2. He has a chance to be a really good pro. He’s just got to stick with it.”

    Kolek Embraces the Competition

Despite moving out of the regular rotation, Kolek has remained focused on improving his game and competing for opportunities.

He previously addressed the competition within the roster while discussing the team’s championship ambitions.

Tyler Kolek said, “There’s always competition in this league.”

He added, “We’re trying to be a championship-level team, so you bring in as much talent as you can.”

The guard also emphasized his determination to continue working for playing time.

Kolek said, “I’m going to compete every single day. Everybody on this team is going to compete for minutes.”

In limited G League assignments, Kolek has continued to show strong scoring ability and playmaking consistency.

His averages highlight his ability to control the offense while also contributing as a scorer.

    Westchester Supporting Performances

Kolek was not the only young Knicks prospect to shine in the victory.

Pacome Dadiet, the Knicks’ first-round pick in the 2024 draft, scored 32 points while adding five rebounds and four assists.

Center Ariel Hukporti contributed 10 points and five rebounds, while veteran TJ Warren provided 14 points off the bench.

A Statement Performance for the Young Guard

Kolek’s historic outing served as an important reminder of his potential.

Although his role with the Knicks is currently limited, the performance reinforced his readiness to contribute when opportunities arise.

With the long NBA season continuing and roster situations constantly evolving, performances like this could strengthen his case for more minutes in the future.
